
Voice Instructor
Janeilla Burns is a vocalist, performer, and music educator originally from California and a U.S. Navy
veteran. She holds a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in Sound Recording Technology from Old
Dominion University. With a strong background in vocal performance, a cappella, and musical theatre,
she brings both musical knowledge and performance experience into her teaching.
During her time at Old Dominion University, Janeilla performed in audition based ensembles including
Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers Choir, and Jazz Choir, and participated in collaborative performances
through Early Music America in Boston alongside institutions such as Harvard. As a former president of
Monarch Key A Cappella, she led rehearsals, mentored singers, and helped foster a supportive musical
community. She has worked for the Community Music Division at Old Dominion University, gaining
experience in music education and program support, and has participated in large scale choral
performances under renowned composers such as Z. Randall Stroope.
Janeilla has experience as a live performer, including being selected to perform as part of a pre show for
The Pentatonix in her hometown and performing the National Anthem for the Norfolk Admirals. She
continues to grow as a recording artist and incorporates piano into her teaching to support vocal
development and musicianship. She has also served as a vocalist on her church’s worship team. Janeilla
is passionate about helping students build confidence, develop their voice, and create a genuine love for
music.
